James T. Chavis serves as God’s Visionary for the Youth Ministry at DaySpring Ministries. The road to that position was a very unique one.
A native of Opelousas, LA, James began his career in the NAVY, receiving his commission through the Officer Candidate School Program in June 1990. Following commissioning, James completed the basic qualification training courses at the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Ga. and the Navy Officer Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut.
James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He also earned a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Contract and Acquisition Management from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. This retired Naval Officer still serves the NAVY as the Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) Lead, NAVSUP WSS, Mechanicsburg, PA. In this role James monitors the financial and business process of the organization in an effort to prepare the organization for audit and maintain audit readiness through the establishment of various monitoring controls.
It was during his Naval career that James accepted his calling for the ministry. While stationed in Japan, James served in Christian Ministries Far East, a Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Church, where he was licensed as a Minister in 2000. His military career eventually brought him to central PA, where the Lord led him to Day Spring. Because of his heart for service, James served in a number of ministries at Day Spring. He has lead Men’s Discipleship Groups, served as Head of the Men’s Breakfast, treasurer of Arms Around Communities, team member of the Annual Picnic committee, and lead various youth groups before being placed as the head of Youth Ministries in 2009. Due to his service he was licensed in Day Spring of August 2009.
In 2015, Pastor Ashe declared James as one of the Pastors in DaySpring Ministries. As a Pastor, James serves in various roles in support of the furtherance of the Gospel.
